New York Bunkering Still Difficult

Bunkering in Port of New York and New Jersey remains a challenge after operations were suspended last week in the aftermath of storms that caused severe disruption and damage to the area.

"Bunkering is difficult," a supplier told Ship & Bunker today, as terminals were still without power, with only one berth currently available for bunkering.

It is still unclear as when power will be restored to allow full bunkering operations to resume.

Terminals are beginning to open, however, with Maher Terminal and APM Terminal at Port Elizabeth, New Jersey said to have opened yesterday, and Global Terminal in Jersey City and the Port Newark Container Terminal reported to have opened this morning.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said he would temporarily lift tax and registration requirements on tankers docking in the New York Harbor, with rules barring foreign-flagged vessels from carrying fuel between U.S. ports also currently being waived.

"There should be a real change in conditions and people should see it quickly," he said.
