OceanConnect Marine (www.oceanconnectmarine.com) is seeking hard-working, proactive, and ambitious individuals to join its marine fuel trading and broking team in Stamford, CT as a Junior Trader / Trainee.

The position will be responsible for assisting with the purchasing and sale of marine fuel, working with a team to help execute and develop business with customers and suppliers based predominantly in the western hemisphere.

The Junior Trader / Trainee will develop and build on their existing skills aimed at sourcing and marketing fuel for a diverse group of shipping companies.  The Trader / Trainee will attain an in depth understanding of retail marine fuel trading and will work with a team to increase new supply and customer opportunities.

Knowledge and experience of the shipping industry is highly desirable.

Core duties and responsibilities include:

  • Assist team in operational/logistic support on transactions including post fixture customer and supplier service
  • Support Traders / Brokers in executing trades, data entry, and reporting
  • Analyze market and demand information to identify new business opportunities
  • Work with Traders / Brokers to help prospect for new customers and suppliers
  • Assist team with preparation of reports and presentations for management and to help build / expand existing relationships with suppliers and customers

The goal of the position will be for the Junior Broker / Trainee to develop their own trading / broking book.

Training may involve spending time in OceanConnect Marine's offices in Europe and Asia.

The Individual:

  • The successful candidate is likely to have an education background and / or prior work experience related to selling commodities and the maritime shipping industry and has a strong desire to utilize such knowledge in marine fuel trading.  In addition, the candidate will have:
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills
  • Strong written and oral communication
  • A willingness and desire to solicit for new business opportunities from new and existing customers
  • A willingness to travel abroad
  • The ability to speak and write English fluently
  • The ability to speak Spanish plus other European languages alongside English is desirable.
