Copec Marine Fuels (Copec) has completed the first bunkering at its new operation in Puerto Williams, located at the very Southern tip of Chile, Bunker Manager Milan Abovich has told Ship & Bunker.

"Puerto Williams is a perfect place to bunker. Not only because the sea is very protected and calm, but geographically speaking it is the last place of the world - it connects the southwest coast of Chile with Ushuaia and Antártida," said Abovich.

"It's a perfect alternative for all cruises that navigate through Ushuaia, Antártida, Estrecho de Magallanes, and others."

The inaugural bunkering took place on November 14, 2016.

The port is currently served by Copec's 1,450 m3 capacity Tamina, supplying 0.1 percent low sulfur MGO.

The vessel has a 300 m3/hr pumping rate.

"We want to offer the best service we can all around in Chile, and as always, in Puerto Williams we now offer competitive prices, safely operated systems, good quality product, along with a quick and smooth delivery," Abovich told Ship & Bunker.

"Puerto Williams is one of the places that we have never supplied fuel to a vessel, so what better way to do this than by our quick and safe bunker Ship? Also, within the next 30 days we will be operating with two Bunker Ships in that area."

The new operation is the latest addition to Copec's already long history; having started its bunker service in 1970, the supplier says that today it has command over 70 percent of the market share.
