The Association of Canadian Port Authorities (ACPA) says it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the group Green Marine to reduce the environmental footprint of the nation's maritime industry.

ACPA and Green Marine will work together on environmental initiatives and seek to involve more member ports and terminal operators in Green Marine's programs.

"This agreement reflects the port authorities' continued commitment to environmental sustainability,'' said ACPA President Wendy Zatylny.

"With this agreement, we will work together to develop additional tools and measures to strengthen the industry's environmental performance.''

Green Marine, which focuses on shipowners, ports, terminals, shipyards, and Seaway corporations in Canada and the U.S., has more than 80 participants, according to its website.
