A fuel oil spill at Connecticut's New Haven Harbor last week has been linked to a leak in a pipeline that runs from the harbour to a facility in East Haven, local media reports.

An estimated 2,000 gallons is reported to have spilled, with approximately 1,800 gallons said to have been recovered from the river.

Officials say containment booms have been deployed, with crews working to seal the leaking pipe.

Crews are expected to continue clean up and repair work in the area for the next few weeks.

Reports indicate that wildlife has not been impacted, and the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection says there is no threat to the environment beyond the area of spill containment.
