Bureau Veritas (BV) has congratulated Canada-based Seaspan Ferries Corporation (SFC) on the entrance into service of Seaspan Swift - the first of two new dual-fuelled hybrid ferries set to be added to the company's fleet, MarineLink reports.

As Ship & Bunker has previously reported, the new "state-of-the-art" vessel, which was delivered in December, can run on diesel, liquefied natural gas (LNG), and battery power.

Seaspan Swift and its soon to be delivered sister vessel, Seaspan Reliant, are both noted to be classed by BV.

"We know how pleased Seaspan are and we share their excitement seeing this ship now in service," said Philippe Donche-Gay, President for Marine & Offshore at BV.

"We are now looking forward to helping Seaspan ensure that this new low emission ferry works efficiently and safely for many years to come."

Last month, Canada-based maritime battery manufacturer Corvus Energy (Corvus) highlighted the use of its lithium ion ESS in the Seaspan Swift.
