A protest by maritime workers has pushed up bunker fuels in Buenos Aires, Argentina with access blocked to some wharfs, Platts reports.

"Due to the congestion we can't deliver the product to our clients, some of them have even cancelled orders and other are heading to Brazil where bunker prices are much lower," one bunker supplier said.

The protesters, who are pushing for higher pay, began their action Monday night, affecting vessels' access to the Bunge, Nidera, and Toepfer wharfs at San Martin.

Fuel prices in Argentina have also been pushed up by demand for fuel oil for heating during the winter season.

The price of IFO380 fuel oil stood at $654.50 on Tuesday, compared with $592.00 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, according to Ship & Bunker data.
