Bunker players operating in the Mexican port of Manzanillo today said they were not expecting to see any significant impact on bunkering following reports that as many as 1,000 people will block the port to protest a recent hike in gasoline prices.

In what had been dubbed "Gasolinazo", a new regulation that took effect at the beginning of the year caused prices to jump some 20 percent in one weekend resulting in widespread protests and civil unrest.

"There was obviously some initial concern, but from what we understand the protest will be limited to roads being blocked today from 08:00 to 18:00 hours," a local supplier told Ship & Bunker.

"This will prevent us from getting to our bunkering vessel to load supplies, but after this evening we expect things to return to normal, so do not anticipate any delays to bunkering."
