Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) has released 105 shipbuilding-related liquefied natural gas (LNG) patents for use by small-to-medium-sized businesses in South Korea, local media reports

The plans will be made official following a signed deal with branches of the Creative Economy Innovation Center and the Regional Intellectual Property Center

Daewoo reportedly spent about 50 billion won ($47 million) developing the technologies.

The company added that LNG has a number of environmental benefits such as emitting 23 percent less carbon dioxide and 95 percent less sulfur oxide than comparable ships, along with reducing fuel costs by 35 percent.

Earlier this month, DSME also signed a deal to allow scrubber manufacturer Alfa Laval to use some of the shipbuilder's patents in developing a fuel conditioning system for LNG ships.
