Singapore has taken another big step towards making 2016 its best ever year for bunker sales, with the latest preliminary data from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) showing year-to-date sales have now broken past the 40 million metric tonne (mt) mark.

Bunker sales for all products in October totalled 4,009,100 mt, a 10.2 percent increase for the month year over year, putting total sales for the first 10 months of 2016 at 40,567,200 mt - higher than any full year total prior to 2010

As always, IFO380 sales made up the majority of the sales volume for October with 2,988,000 mt sold.

It was also business as usual for the port's second most popular grade, 500 cSt, with the 793,900 mt sold representing 19.8 percent of the overall sales.

There were 3,507 calls for bunkers in October, up from 3,468 for the month last year, putting the average stem size at 1,143 mt - a fraction below the 12 month average of 1,148 mt.

With an average monthly sales total for 2016 currently standing at 4.05 million mt, over 9 percent higher than then 3.7 million mt average for the period in 2015, with November and December totals still to be included it would seem that only the most unlikeliest of events would now prevent the port from beating its previous 45.1 million mt annual sales record set last year.
