Eco Marine Power (EMP) Tuesday announced that, in cooperation with the Furukawa Battery Co., Ltd. (Furukawa Battery), it now offers a range of marine battery solutions for use on ships, as well as other marine related applications, such as offshore platforms and renewable energy projects.

The batteries are said to have been accepted for use on Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (ClassNK) classed vessels.

As part of its Aquarius Marine Solar Power and Aquarius MAS + Solar solution packages, EMP says that three main battery types from Furukawa Battery will now be used, including the FC38-12 Valve Regulated Lead Acid (VRLA), Furukawa Cycle Power (FCP) series, and the Ultra Battery (UB) series.

Commenting on the different types of batteries, the company stated, "FC38-12 VRLA batteries are ideal for small marine solar power applications (i.e. up to around 5kWp) and can be supplied either as a battery pack set or as individual 12V units."

"FCP series batteries are ideally suited for renewable energy applications and their long life (approximately 15 years) and low maintenance requirements make them ideal for use on ships."

"The UB series are the ideal solution for smart grid, wind power and solar power applications both on land and on ships," EMP added.

Mr. Kodaka, General Manager, International Business Department at Furukawa Battery, commenting on its cooperation with EMP, said "we look forward to working with Eco Marine Power to promote our battery technologies and expand our market share for energy storage in the shipping and maritime sectors."

In October, the Furukawa Battery Co. announced it had joined a renewable energy innovation project started by EMP and Greece's Blue Star Ferries.
