A senior executive at China National Offshore Oil Company (CNOOC) has been detained on allegations of bribery, Reuters reports

Luo Weizhong, general manager of international trading at CNOOC Gas & Power Group is the first official from CNOOC to be caught in President Xi Jinping's war on corruption.

As part of his work, Luo was involved in the developing gas import terminals and long-term liquefied natural gas (LNG) import contracts worth billions of dollars.

Since having come into power, President Xi has launched crackdowns on corruption across the country, having already detained former security chief Zhou Yongkong and former head of top energy group CNPC Jiang Jiemin.

Last year, Xu Minjie, an executive director of major bulk shipper China COSCO Holdings Co Ltd. also came under investigation on what was suspected to be corruption charges.
