Clean up efforts are underway in Singapore following a fuel oil spill last Friday at a Tankstore facility on the southern island of Pulau Busing.

Local media reports that Tankstore informed the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) on the spill late Saturday, with the spill itself having occurred the previous day, April 29, at about 12:05 p.m.

Tankstore has not yet responded to a request for further information, including what volume of product was spilled, sent earlier this week by Ship & Bunker.

However it is understood that the leak was successfully controlled via a pit wall dug around the tank to contain the oil, none of which is believed to have made its way into the waters surrounding the terminal.

A report earlier this week by Platts linked the incident to a noted decline in offers there, with one Singapore-based trader commenting that only three physical offers for 380 cSt fuel oil were completed on Tuesday, a "sharp contrast to the usual 10 to 20 offers typically seen throughout April."
