Two ships have been detained in Malaysia after being caught allegedly transferring bunkers illegally, local media reports

According to the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), the Equatorial Guinea-registered Mt Vitology was attempting to transfer 80,000 litres of marine gas oil (MGO) to the Vietnam-registered Mt An Phu on Monday in Pengerang waters.

All nine Indonesian crew of the Mt Vitology and all seven Vietnamese crew of the Mt An Phu were reportedly detained.

Meanwhile, another ship, the MT Golden Prosperity, was also reportedly detained by law enforcement for illegally docking in the same general area, marking the twelfth ship caught illegally anchoring by the MMEA so far for this year.

In separate reports, MMEA Tanjung Sedili maritime enforcement chief Captain Amran Daud said that both cases would be investigated for alleged failure to settle light dues.

In August, Ship & Bunker reported that the MMEA had detained another two Indonesia-Flagged tankers for illegal docking.
