The Korea Gas Corporation (Kogas) is expected announce that its KC-1 cargo containment system will be utilised on a small-scale liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier newbuilding, which Kogas intends to use for LNG bunkering in the future, TradeWinds reports.

The tender for the vessel project is said to have been expected to be announced late last year but was delayed so project details could be finalised.

The vessel is reported to be slated to supply the Korean resort of Jeju Island with natural gas for power generation.

Kogas is noted to have signed a deal with Jeju City Gas Co in November, outlining the the supply of 12,000 tonnes of LNG per year to the local utility from 2019.

In December, Ship & Bunker reported that Kogas was set to invest $9 million to support ship to ship LNG bunkering infrastructure in Tongyeong, South Korea, including the construction of loading arms and a quay by 2019 - part of a larger push in South Korea toward the development of LNG bunkering in the country.
