Singapore headquartered Pacific Swire Offshore Operations (PSO) on Monday announced the addition to its fleet of a new fuel-efficient platform service vessel (PSV) following a naming ceremony at Yokohama shipyard, Japan.

Pacific Gannet is one of ten G Class PSVs being built for PSO by Japan Marine United Corp. (JMU) as part of a plan to increase PSO's fleet from 88 to 100 vessels by the end of 2015.

Neil Glenn, Managing Director of SPO said "the addition of the G Class PSV vessels will provide another industry leading product within our fleet portfolio."

Pacific Gannet will be powered by a diesel electric propulsion system and, since PSVs are expected to be versatile, designed to be fuel efficient in a variety of different conditions.

The G Class PSVs' bulbous bow design, for example, is configured to allow fuel efficiency over a variety of different voyages as opposed to being tuned for one specific use.

The new PSVs will have a deadweight of 4,000 tonnes and include space for 969 cubic metres of cargo fuel.

The new G Class vessels are part of a programme of renewal and growth at SPO and follows the recent completion of its D Class series earlier this year.
