The International Maritime Organization's (IMO's) Global Maritime Energy Efficiency Partnerships (GloMEEP) project says a Malaysian workshop covering the implementation  of IMO Model Course 4.05 on Energy Efficient Operation of Ships was held in Kuala Lumpur on Monday and Tuesday.

The event is said to have been intended to enable maritime training institutes to deliver IMO's Model Course 4.05 to seafarers.

"The workshop covers in detail various methods for improving energy efficiency of ships including optimised ship handling, fuel and energy management, and shipboard system planning," explained GloMEEP.

"The workshop also featured presentations on Malaysia's perspective on maritime energy efficiency education, and the industry perspective on implementing ship energy efficiency measures."

The event was hosted by the Marine Department Malaysia and the Maritime Institute of Malaysia, and was attended by representatives from various maritime universities, shipping colleges, and institutes from across Malaysia.

The event comes on the heels of a three-day GloMEEP workshop last week in Johor, which saw attendees conduct onboard practice inspections under MARPOL Annex VI, including checking certificates and documentation, fuel tank arrangement, and bunker fuel samples.
