The Vietnam Coast Guard Friday arrested a Thai ship, Takuzan 111, for illegal bunkering, according to local media reports.

The vessel was said to have been found with about 260,000 litres of fuel without the required documentation, approximately 160 nautical miles south-east of Cape Ca Mau.

It is reported that Takuzan 111 was supplying a fishing vessel with the fuel at the time the authorities arrived on the scene, which fled before the coast guard could arrest it.

Authorities say the captain and crew of the Takuzan 111 were also all unable to provide valid identity documents.

However, the Coast Guard is said to have found documents showing the volumes of fuel the vessel had sold to Vietnamese fishing boats during the month of July.

Colonel Pham Quang Oanh of the Coast Guard also noted that Takuzan 111 is not a tanker, and as such did not have firefighting or pollution prevention equipment onboard.
