After hitting a near two year high in April, bunker sales in Singapore have continued to show year on year improvement, according to the latest data from the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), which shows the sales volume for all products in May 2014 was 3,637,600 metric tonnes (mt), 3 percent higher than the same period in 2013.

As usual, IFO380 bunkers formed the majority of May 2014's sales at 2,701,900 mt, while the port's second most popular grade, 500 cSt product, fell 4 percent month on month but were still the second highest on record at 718,200 mt.

There was dip in vessel calls for the month, 11,589 for the month compared to 11,803 in 2013, however calls for bunkers were up slightly at 3,300 compared to 3,282 last year.

Despite starting the year with monthly sales some 6 percent lower than in 2013, and slumping to a to a 13-month low in March, 2014's year to date sales have now moved ahead of 2013 for the first time this year at 17,470,600 mt, 62,100 mt more than the five month period last year.
