China's Shanghai Bluesoul Environmental Technology (Bluesoul) has entered into a partnership with Shanghai Huarun Dadong Dockyard Co.,Ltd. (HRDD), which will see the two companies work together to market and install of Bluesoul's exhaust gas scrubber systems on ships, Seatrade Maritime reports.

As Ship & Bunker reported last month, DNV GL granted Approval in Principle (AiP) to Bluesoul for the technical feasibility of the company's BlueSulf scrubber system.

"Bluesoul has always been focused on researching and developing abatement systems for ships, and the partnership with HRDD is expected to greatly extend the reach of our systems to newbuildings or retrofits," said Zhou Yang, Bluesoul's COO.

The partnership is intended to support shipowners in complying with current Chinese Emission Control Area (ECA) requirements and the global 0.50 percent sulfur cap on marine fuel, set to be implemented from 2020, explained Liu Zhiyong, deputy executive director of HRDD.

As previously reported, Bluesulf reduces the sulfur content in ship exhaust gas to 0.1 percent or less, enabling compliance with such regulations.
