Statoil (U.K.) Limited Thursday announced it has awarded offshore supply contracts, including the provision of bunkers, to UK firm ASCO UK Limited (ASCO).

ASCO will supply marine gasoil (MGO) as well as personnel, transportation, warehousing and other services for the Statoil-controlled Mariner oil field in the North Sea.

The two, five-year supply contracts are anticipated to begin in quarter one of 2016 and both feature two-year extension options.

Under the contracts, ASCO will make around five sailings per week to the oil field which lies 150 kilometres east of the Shetland Islands.

"Production on Mariner requires a high level of drilling activity and the field is reliant on a seamless and cost efficient logistics chain," said Gunnar Breivik, Managing Director for Statoil Production UK.

"Asco is a well-established player and their supply base in Peterhead is a proven, high-performing logistics hub."

The Mariner oil field has estimated reserves of 250 million barrels and is expected to see average plateau production of 55,000 barrels per day.

In October, Statoil ASA's CEO Helge Lund stepped down to take a position with UK energy company BG Group.
