Maran Tankers Management (Maran Tankers) has ordered four oil tankers with potential for conversion to liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkers from South Korea's Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. (DSME) for $400 million, Yonhap News Agency reports.

Maran Tankers, a unit of Greek shipper Angelicoussis Group, will pay extra if it decides to convert from bunker-C oil-propelled engines to LNG-powered ones.

The contract calls for the tankers to be delivered by 2016.

DSME is also building tri-fuel carriers capable of running on LNG for Maran Tankers sister company Maran Gas.

Greek shipowners have reportedly been in talks with Qatar over possible use of natural gas from that country as marine fuel.
