Hoppe Maritime Group, owners of fuel purgers Euroservices, Monday announced the successful completion of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) bunkering trials of the Coral Star, a newbuild very large ethylene carrier delivered to Anthony Veder at Zeebrugge in September.

Chinese-built Coral Star completed its maiden voyage from Jiangsu province on traditional fuel oil for LNG trials at Zeebrugge and is Anthony Veder's first vessel to feature LNG tanks for cargo independent dual fuel operation.

The vessel's LNG tanks were first purged of oxygen using liquefied nitrogen and cooled to -160 degrees Celcius, after which her system was filled with LNG bunkers.

Engine power generation was first sent ashore for testing and controlling and with testing successfully completed on her three engines, the vessel set sail.

A second Anthony Veder ship is expected to call Zeebrugge for testing in the near future.

"We are looking forward to see her sister vessel Coral Sticho soon in Zeebrugge for the LNG-commissioning," said Ferdinand Dekker, Operations Manager for Anthony Veder.

Earlier this year, LNGEurope said it had performed the first LNG bunkering operation for a seagoing vessel at Zeebrugge.
