Icelandic marine energy management company Marorka has announced is has been chosen to provide performance monitoring solutions for The National Shipping Company of Saudi Arabia (Bahri) subsidiary Mideast Ship Management Ltd.

The systems will be installed on 26 VLCC Mideast tankers with the intention of reducing fuel consumption as well as carbon emissions.

Over the past six months Mideast has conducted a pilot program of the systems on four of its vessels, and Venkatesh Radhakrishnan, fleet manager for Mideast, says "we identified areas for savings as a direct result of the installation and correct utilization of the Marorka systems."

Currently, all Bahri vessels use advanced coatings and other technologies to reduce fuel consumption.

The fleet performance monitoring will augment data collection with manual noon reports and has been called an "holistic" solution by Marorka CEO Ole Skatka Jensen

Robert Houston, president of Mideast, remarks that "the advantage of automated data collection, hybrid reporting systems, and state-of-the-art fleet performance tools is immense, both for reporting purposes and for environmental reasons."

Earlier this year, Marorka signed an agreement with Neste Shipping Oy for the lease of energy management solutions to optimize energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gases.
