Zim Integrated Shipping Services' (Zim) has switched from Port Vostochny to new facilities at the Port of Slavyanka in Primorsky Territory, far east Russia, for bunkering purposes, PortNews IAA reports.

Zim's first vessel, Zim Haifa was said to have arrived in Slavyanka on July 15 to unload containers at the new floating Roads Transshipment Complex (TOR), owned and operated by Tranzit-DV Group.

Its decision to change venue was reportedly due to the difference in port fees, bunker costs, speed, and quality of service, and the availability of offshore transshipment of containers.

TOR consists of a 1,700 dwt floating crane that is able to raise containers weighing up to 50 tonnes to a height of up to 36 metres.

Following Zim Haifa's unloading, Zim was said to have stated it was "very pleased" with the operation.

TOR commenced operations in March of this year, and Tranzit-DV officials believe the facility could help double bunker volumes at Slavyanka, which has already seen annual bunker volumes grow from 150,000 metric tonnes (mt) in 2013 to around 800,000 mt in 2014.
