Antwerp Port Authority Thursday announced that it has granted a concession to ENGIE LNG Solutions B.V. (ENGIE) to develop and operate a liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering station for barges at the port.

The concession is said to begin on October 1, 2016 this year and will run for 30 years, with ENGIE LNG Solutions set to utilise a site at Quay 526-528 for the operation.

"Thanks to this bunkering facility LNG will be permanently available in the port of Antwerp. We are determined not to let this important milestone go unmarked," stated the port.

The Port of Antwerp says it will be holding a launch event at the port on April 28 at 10.30 a.m.

In September, the Port of Antwerp announced that it had successfully completed its first truck-to-ship  LNG bunkering operation on a seagoing vessel.
