A source at Algeria's Sonatrach Monday invited international engineering firms to bid on four major petrochemical plants, including a fuel oil cracking plant, Reuters reports.

The firms selected will carry out construction work on the four refineries, which are valued at a collective $6 billion.

Two of the plants are located in Skikda, while the remaining two are in Tiaret, and Hassi Messaoud, respectively.

The source says the Tiaret and Hassi Messaoud plants are set to feature 5 million tonne capacities each.

Algeria is noted to currently produce 30 million tonnes of oil refined products annually.
