Greek police say Kyriakos Mamidakis, Chairman of bankrupt Mamidoil - JetOil SA (JetOil), which includes JetOil Bunkering among its business, on Sunday was found dead at his home outside of Athens with a gun by his head, local media reports.

While investigations are ongoing, the 84 year-old's death is said to have been ruled a suicide, as no evidence of foul play has been found.

The news comes after JetOil is reported to have filed for bankruptcy on June 9, owing creditors €314 million ($349.73 million) as at the end of the 2015 year - a situation that Mamidakis is said to have applied for protection against.

The case was set to be heard on November 1, 2016.

The company is noted to have had cash reserves of around €600,000 ($668,280) at the time of bankruptcy.

JetOil Bunkering was Greece's largest privately owned bunker fuel supplier, with bunkering vessels operated by Jet-Tank Maritime and Styga Compania Naviera S.A. (Styga Compania Naviera).

In the past the company also owned and operated bulk carriers, as well as combination carriers.

Media have noted that, in 2011, Mamidakis received a Lifetime Achievement Award from Lloyd's List, noted as "an example to others for his high ethical values and business practices."
