Netherlands-based Zeeland Seaports N.V. (Zeeland Seaports) Monday announced that a liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering pilot project has been launched at the Dutch port of Vlissingen with a truck to ship bunkering operation on Chemgas Shipping's dual-fuel coastal tanker Sundowner.

According to a number of media reports, the pilot project is said to be set to run until the end of 2016, with the results of the pilot informing Zeeland Seaports' decision on whether to continue with consistent LNG bunkering at the port.

The LNG bunkering pilot project is said to be part of Zeeland Seaports' strategic master plan for theĀ  Vlissingen port, which also includes plans to develop an LNG bunkering facility and work to significantly reduce both CO2 and nitrogen emissions.

In October, Ship & Bunker reported that Royal Dutch Shell plc was opening its third LNG truck refueling station in the Netherlands to serve growing demand from both trucks and ships.
