Footage of a box ship collision in the Suez Canal on Monday between Hapag-Lloyd's MV Colombo Express and Maersk Line's MV Maersk Tanjong has been posted on video sharing website YouTube.

No bunker spill was reported as a result of the incident, with both vessels said to be able to carry on.

"According to preliminary findings, there are no injuries and no damage has been done to the environment," Haphag-Lloyd noted in a separate statement.

Haphag-Lloyd said the exact course of events is under investigation, but Inchcape Shipping Services (ISS) reported that the Maersk Line ship was leaving the container terminal and joining the convoy and collided with Hapag-Lloyd's vessel which was already proceeding through the canal.

Three containers are said to have fallen from the Colombo Express and a 20-metre dent was sustained by the ship.

On Tuesday the Suez Canal Authority was attempting to recover the fallen containers and the two vessels were moored at the canal lakes awaiting inspection and investigation.

In August, the Egyptian government announced it planned to build a new canal next to the existing one at Suez.
