Market sources Tuesday said impediments to bunkering operations at Istanbul resulting from an oil spill in Turkey's Izmit Bay last week have diminished, Platts reports.

As Ship & Bunker previously reported, a "significant" fuel oil spill in the waters of Izmit Bay caused all traffic to be halted at 10:30 a.m. local time on Friday.

One local supplier Friday morning said that, while barges were still able to load bunkers at Istanbul, the traffic stoppage left them unable to leave the terminal to supply vessels.

"Izmit Bay [where bunker-loading terminals are based] is 95 percent working as normal," one Istanbul-based source told Platts.

According to Ship & Bunker data, the price for IFO 380 at Istanbul on Monday held steady from Friday at $352 per metric tonne (pmt).
