Italian bunker vessel owner Ciane S.p.A says it has acquired the Genoa based bunker business of Petrolmar S.p.A in a deal that was effective June 3, 2014.

The sale includes the transfer of Petrolmar's three bunker tankers, Santa Rita, St. Francis, and Santa Giulia, along with the related licenses and staff.

Ciane said that while the price it paid remained confidential, the sum was largely intended to settle outstanding debt.

In April, Petrolmar was bought by Dutch shipping firm Vroon, who also acquired its two bitumen tankers San Matteo and San Lorenzo as part of the deal, saying at the time it wasn't planning to make any changes to the organisation or operations of the company.

In a statement earlier this month Vroon said the sale of the bunkering operation would allow it to focus solely on Petrolmar's bitumen tanker business.

Petrolmar's bunkering operations were active in the ports of Genoa, Savona, La Spezia, and Marina di Carrara.
