Russian President Vladimir Putin has called for bunkering and other services in the Azov-Black sea region to be improved, IAA PortNews reports.

Following a meeting on the development of the region's port infrastructure, the President asked for the implementation of measures to minimise intermediary services between bunker suppliers and buyers when performing bunkering operations.

Other measures included a call for a priority on the construction of improved port access by both rail and road.

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev was reported to have been appointed as a person responsible implementing the measures, and an implementation report has been requested by December 1, 2014.

Last month Lukoil representative Roman Kovalchuk predicted a "sales influx" in the area as ships were expected to switch to the Azov-Black Sea basin as a route into Russia.
