The Gulf Agency Company Ltd. (GAC) EnvironHull has announced that its diver-free hull cleaning technology, known as the HullWiper, has been approved for use in the Danish ports of Copenhagen, Kalundborg, and Fredricia.

"The granting of permission to use HullWiper in these three Danish ports represents the latest in our growing list of approvals around the world," said Simon Doran, Managing Director of GAC EnvironHull.

"At a time when Scandinavian governments are focused on building upon their strong and stringent environmental credentials, these approvals are testament to the faith that the authorities place on this pioneering technology to help further this."

The company, which received approval for HullWiper use in Gothenburg, Sweden in 2014, says that the Denmark approvals "represent the latest expansion of the service into the Scandinavian region."

Out of the 178 countries surveyed, Denmark was said to be ranked thirteenth and Sweden ninth in the bi-annual Environmental Performance Index 2014.

Earlier this month the bunker saving potential of improved hull performance received renewed attention when Geir Axel Oftedahl, Business Development Director of Hull Performance Solutions for Jotun, said the ISO 19030 standard that establishes standards and methods for measuring hull and propeller performance could reduce the world fleet's bunker bill by $30 billion per year.

In April, it was announced that the HullWiper was available in Singapore.
