A new liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering terminal on Sweden's east coast is scheduled to begin construction next year, industry news site Seatrade Global reports.

The Swedish government has agreed to let Norwegian LNG company Skangass build the terminal, which will have 30,000 cubic meters of storage capacity and be able to handle up to 50,000 tonnes of the fuel each year.

The project will allow for the bunkering of LNG-fuelled ships at Gävle Harbour as part of the nation's efforts to provide more infrastructure for the fuel.

Skangass already operates an LNG terminal at Risavika, Norway that provides bunkering for Fjord Line's passenger ferries.

In Sweden, the Ports of Stockholm began offering LNG bunkering last year, and the Port of Gothenburg is constructing a bunkering terminal.
