Oman Shipping Company (OSC) has taken delivery of new fuel-efficient liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier, reports TradeArabia.

The Adam LNG, which was built in South Korea by Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), is another addition to OSC's sizable fleet, which is one of the largest in the gulf.

Its major innovations include its propulsion system and the design of its aft hull form, with its Dual Fuel Diesel Electric (DFDE) technology reportedly increasing energy efficiency and cutting nitrogen oxides (NOx) emissions.

A new low-friction paint will also cut down on fuel consumption, said OSC acting CEO Tarik Al Junaidi.

"We have listened to industry and we understand this is what customers want," said Al Junaidi.

"The delivery of the Adam LNG, together with the ordering of 11 medium range products tankers, reflects our ambition to grow not only in Oman, and the Middle East, but also worldwide."

The carrier, said the company, and will be offered on the "open market" to oil and gas companies worldwide.

OSC also said that a large part of its growth plans will include developing the Port of Duqm on the South West coast of the Arabian Sea, which began bunkering operations last year.
