Carisbrooke Shipping Ltd. Tuesday announced it is using a patented fluropolymer hull coating on one of its vessels in a bid to improve hull efficiency and reduce fuel consumption.

The coating is Intersleek 1100SR from International Paint Ltd., and it has been applied to Carlsbrooke's 12,927 deadweight tonnage (DWT) vessel Jasmine C

Carlsbrooke stated in a press release, "This is the first time Carisbrooke Shipping has used this patented technology," adding that it's "a milestone for both companies and demonstrates continuous improvements to the fleets' performance."

The company has not yet disclosed any performance specifics.

Intersleek 1100SR is said to offer significant service enhancements by way of reducing hull roughness, which in turn reportedly reduces vessel fuel consumption and qualifies vessel owners to be included in carbon credit initiatives.

Carlsbrooke in March decided to use International Paint products on all of its remaining 6,000 DWT K Class vessels to improve vessel efficiency.

International is one of a number of manufacturers whose products are aimed at improving hull efficiency.

In April Gulf Agency Company Ltd. (GAC) EnvironHull reported that its diver-free hull cleaning technology, known as the HullWiper, is now available in Singapore.
