Germany's Port of Brunsbüttel recently marked the first liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering, when the LNG-fuelled cement carrier, Ireland, received 19 tonnes of LNG through a truck to ship operation, LNG World News reports.

As Ship & Bunker previously reported, Netherlands-based Ferus Smit Contracting B.V. (Ferus Smit) delivered the second liquefied natural gas (LNG) powered cement tanker, Ireland, to Nowegian owner JT Cement AS (JT Cement) in June.

The vessel operator is noted to have hired a Berlin-based firm to carry out the bunkering operation, which utilised LNG obtained from Eni.

Frank Schnabel, managing director of Brunsbüttel Ports, has said that, with demand for LNG bunkering expected to increase in coming years, the Elbe port of Brunsbüttel is being presented as a suitable LNG bunker location.
