Spain-based SENER group (Sener) Wednesday announced that it will be presenting its "revolutionary" liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering vessel design at the LNG Bunkering Summit 2017, which is being held in Amsterdam from January 29 to February 1.

"The use of LNG as a fuel significantly reduces carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and almost completely eliminates sulfur dioxide (SO2), nitrous oxide (NOx), and other polluting particles. As such, it offers the perfect solution for ships that are more respectful towards the environment," said Sener.

Sener explains that, "as a company that is committed to this technology," it has undertaken a research project intended to see the design of both a LNG-powered vessel and a unit to supply such vessels with fuel.

Sener notes that the bunkering vessel design that it will present at the conference comes in two versions, one with a 8,000 m3 capacity, and one with a 4,000 m3 capacity, both of which feature two bunker tanks.

The LNG Bunkering Summit is noted to bring together leading figures from ports, terminal operators, ship owners, suppliers, and LNG technologists interested in forming strategic partnerships and developing shared strategies to strengthen the LNG bunkering market.

As Ship & Bunker previously reported, Sener's 8,000 m3 capacity ship to ship LNG bunkering vessel is said to be designed for navigation, manoeuvrability, and operation in rough weather conditions, and features an Unrestricted Navigation notation.
