Harvey Gulf International Marine (HGIM) will open a new liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering station at Port Fourchon, Louisiana, U.S., beginning in July, local media reports.

The facility will fuel the company’s fleet of LNG-powered vessels, which HGIF is investing $350 million in to build.

The move, along with the creation of a new shipbuilding affiliate through the acquisition of Gulf Coast Shipyard, is expected to position the company as a the country's only builder, owner and operator of both diesel and liquefied natural gas offshore supply vessels, according to Chairman and CEO Shane J. Guidry.

"The dual-fuel vessels we're building and our LNG bunkering facility are indicative of HGIM's commitment to develop and utilize the safest, most environmentally-friendly vessels and fuel technology available today," Guidry said.

Earlier this year Shell Oil Company said Harvey Gulf’s offshore supply vessels are currently the most environmentally friendly in the Gulf of Mexico.

It was reported earlier this year that the Harvey Energy had been launched by Shell as the the Gulf of Mexico's first LNG offshore supply vessel.
