The International Maritime Organization (IMO) Tuesday announced that it has released a complete package of training materials on IMO’s energy efficiency requirements, which are now available for free download online.

The IMO says the training package will be of interest to those looking to understand chapter 4 in Annex VI of the International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL), as well as the regulations' technical and operational implications for ship designers, shipbuilders, companies, and seafarers.

The training materials are said to include presentations, posters, exercises, and assignments that cover topics including Climate Change and the Shipping Response, Ship Energy Efficiency Regulations and Related Guidelines, From Management to Operation, Ship Board Energy Management, Ship Port Interface for Energy Efficiency, as well as Energy Management Plans and Systems.

The IMO says the package that has been designed enable energy efficiency trainees to become trainers themselves.

"This is to encourage the development of a pool of people who can participate in capacity-building activities under either the auspices of IMO technical cooperation activities or in any other formal education and training scenario," stated the IMO.

The package can be downloaded here.

In December, the IMO announced that the Global Maritime Energy Efficiency Partnerships (GloMEEP) had the first national workshop held under the project in Batumi, Georgia, which focused on raising awareness of energy efficiency regulations of Chapter 4.
