ABS has announced that it has classed Navigator Aurora - said to be the world's largest liquefied natural gas (LNG)-powered ethane carrier.

As Ship & Bunker has previously reported, Navigator Gas announced that it had taken delivery of the newbuild hybrid ethane/ethylene carrier in August, which is capable of running on LNG, methane, HFO, and MGO.

"In the coming years, we expect to see many more projects being developed to service the expanding gas export market from the United States," said Patrick Janssens, ABS Vice President of Global Gas Solutions.

"With our experience with the latest technologies for gas carriers and LNG fueled ships, we are well positioned to assist our clients with their new projects."

Navigator Aurora has been reported to be under a minimum 10 year charter to Borealis, and will be employed on a U.S. East Coast to Europe service beginning in 2016's fourth quarter 2016.
