Gulf Petrochem Group (Gulf Petrochem) Tuesday announced in an emailed statement the appointment of former KPI Bridge Oil director Neil Lamerton as its Global Head of Bunkering.

The group also announced it has opened a branch office in London as part of its global expansion plans.

Gulf Petrochem said London is a strategic location to cater to European and West African markets.

Lamerton will be based in London and will oversee Gulf Petrochem's existing bunkering businesses in UAE, India, and Singapore.

He will also be generally responsible for driving the group's growth agenda for its global bunkering business.

"Neil fills a strategically important role with Gulf Petrochem, and we're delighted that he has joined the group bringing with him the necessary technical and operational expertise which is particularly valuable as we develop GP's international footprint in the bunker industry," said Gulf Petrochem Director Prerit Goel.

Lamerton has been tasked with developing new supply locations outside Gulf Petrochem's existing network.

"Gulf Petrochem has tremendous growth prospects as it has positioned itself as an asset backed physical supplier and trader," said Lamerton.

"I therefore have a unique opportunity to expand & strengthen its bunkering team and global supply facilities that will enable the group to fulfil its mission to be amongst the leading bunker suppliers in the world".

The group is said to be considering expanding into the Gulf of Khambat using its Pipavav Oil Terminal Project as a springboard.

Lamerton can be contacted at neil.lamerton@gulfpetrochem.com.

Last week Gulf Petrochem said it was set to handle fuel oil at its new Pipavav storage terminal.
