Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement Ltd. (BSM) Tuesday announced that the "state-of-the-art" container ship designed by the Schulte Group, the 5,400 TEU Carl Schulte is outperforming the most stringent environmental standards in the industry in terms of design and performance.

"So impressive is Carl Schulte's operating results that it is currently performing in the top 2 percent of containerships of its size and type," stated BSM.

"Her owner Bernhard Schulte, together with her manager Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (BSM), succeeded in pushing the boundaries when it came to hull design and the fitting of one of the most efficient engines on the market."

BSM says that Carl Schulte and its sister vessels, Christa Schulte and Clemens Schulte, feature sophisticated software for optimised voyage planning and CO2, SOX and NOX emissions measurement.

Due to its relative environmentally friendly operations, Carl Schulte is said to benefit from significant discounts from ports such as the recently visited Port Metro Vancouver and Prince Rupert Port.

In October, Angus Campbell, Managing Director at BSM UK said that the move to liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkers is a "game changer which cannot be ignored."
