Seaspan Corp. (Seaspan) Wednesday announced it has taken delivery of a new fuel efficient 10,000 twenty foot equivalent units (TEU) box ship to be employed on a long-term time charter to Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL).

The MOL Brightness was built by Jiangsu Yangzi Xinfu Shipbuilding Co. and is the fifth fuel efficient SAVER design vessel to be delivered to Seaspan this year.

The ship will immediately commence an eight year, fixed-rate time charter to MOL, making her the second of five to be chartered to the company.

Seaspan has been looking to demand for its SAVER design ships as a key part of its growth strategy.

The company reported profits down despite revenue growth in the second quarter of 2014.
