SulNOx Fuel Fusions Plc. (SulNOx) Tuesday in an emailed press release announced that it has signed an agreement with Lloyd's Register (LR) to help it with the commercial deployment of its emulsion fuel products.

LR will verify SulNOxEco Fuels' operational suitability, make recommendations for maximum fuel savings and environmental friendliness, and secure a third party commercial vessel of a "significant shipping line" on which sea trials will be undertaken.

"Our principal role is to verify performance. The results SulNOx have already achieved through practical applications of its technology are extremely encouraging but, as with any new solution to market, technical and operational performance must be assured to help the market make the best, informed, decisions," said LR's Tim Wilson.

"This is particularly true of the shipping industry where ship owners and operators are cautious or in some cases skeptical of the performance of new and unfamiliar eco efficiency technologies."

SulNOx says that its emulsion fuel provides increased efficiency and speed of fuel burn, reducing particulate matter (PM) production by up to 90 percent and reduce fuel consumption up to 8 percent.

"The LR accredited results will aim to foster confidence in the proven safety, performance and anti-pollution benefits of SulNOxEco Fuels, particularly in the shipping industry, one of SulNOx's key target markets," SulNOx said.

The firm said it also recently signed a two-year agreement with the University of Cambridge's Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology department to better understand the processes behind SulNOxEco Fuels' performance.

Earlier this month, another emulsion fuels firm, Quadrise Fuels International plc (Quadrise), signed a deal with Spain's Compañía Española de Petróleos, S.A.U. (CEPSA) to trial supplying its alternative marine fuel to Maersk Line ships.
