China's Yangzhou Guoyu Shipyard will build two liquefied natural gas (LNG)-fuelled containerships destined for charter to Finnish operator Containerships, industry news site IHS Maritime reports.

A partnership between China's Guoyu Nordic Shipping (GNS) and Germany's Nordic Hamburg Shipping (NHS) ordered the 1,400 twenty-foot equivalent (TEU) vessels.

Two ships that the partnership ordered from the shipyard in 2014 are set for delivery in the first half of 2016, and the Finnish company is reportedly considering buying all four vessels.

The ships will make Containerships the first short-sea operator in Europe running vessels on LNG.

The newly ordered ships are scheduled for delivery in 2017.

The previously ordered two ships were the first to use Wärtsilä Corp. (Wärtsilä)'s 2-stroke, low pressure, dual-fuel engines.
