Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. (MES) Tuesday announced that it has delivered a 60,411 DWT ECO bulk carrier M/V Iconic Unicorn, said to have a design that boosts fuel efficiency and complies with MARPOL's Tier II NOx restriction, to Ionic Unicorn Inc.

The Marshall Islands-flagged vessel is said to have a Mitsui-Man B&W Diesel Engine 6S50ME-B9.3 capable of reaching speeds of about 14.5k, and is fitted with low sulfur fuel oil tanks for Emission Control Areas (ECA) compliance.

M/V Iconic Unicorn is reported to be the third eco-ship to be constructed within a "neo series," and the 11th vessel within the "neo60BC series."

The vessel's bow and stern is said to provide enhanced vessel maneuverability, and allows for operational continuity in rough seas.

Earlier in March, it was reported that Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL), utilising data collected from Fleet Monitor, MES' internet-based ship-to-shore vessel operation monitoring system, a performance test of its Advanced Control for Ecology (ACE) autopilot route control function demonstrated energy savings of approximately 1.5 percent.
