Trinidad & Tobago’s National Petroleum (NP) is expanding into Haiti with new operations that may include bunkering, the Trinidad Express reports.

The company will establish a subsidiary company in Haiti, along with nine gas stations and an NP office.

Chairman Neil Gosine said NP will work together with the Petroleum Company of Trinidad and Tobago Ltd. (Petrotrin) and National Energy (NE), allowing Haiti to access products including diesel, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and lubricants.

“We want to fast-track this, within six to nine months,” Gosine said.

“We have already done the feasibility studies for the branding of the stations in Haiti and we are conducting feasibility studies for other opportunities, namely LPG, bunkering, fuel storage and supply of lubricants.”

NE is also working on a port project with the Haitian government, Energy Minister Kevin Ramnarine said.

Haiti is facing a fuel shortage of 120,000 barrels per day (bpd), Petrotrin Chairman Lindsay Gillette said, adding that the first cargo of fuel will leave for Haiti in a couple of months.

Petrotrin announced last year that it would expand bunkering operations into Panama.
