Emission Control Area (ECA) operator Viking Ocean Cruises (Viking) today announced that it has taken delivery of Viking Sky - the third of six vessels slated for delivery to the company.

The delivery ceremony of the 47,800 GT vessel took place today at a ceremony at Fincantieri's shipyard in Ancona, Italy.

"Today we mark an important milestone in welcoming the third ship to our fleet," said Torstein Hagen, Chairman of Viking Cruises.

"By the end of 2017 – our 20th year in business – we will also welcome our fourth ship, doubling our fleet in less than a year."

The vessel is set to sail spring itineraries through the Mediterranean before making its way to Norway to be christened in a ceremony on June 22 in Tromsø.

After the ceremony, the vessel will then sail itineraries in Scandinavia and the Baltic before crossing the Atlantic in September to complete voayges in the Americas and the Caribbean.

Upon delivery of the first vessel in the series, Hagen said reducing the company's bunker bill was a major consideration for its first ocean cruise ship, noting that Viking Star's bulbous front provided three to five percent savings in fuel costs.
